City Gangrel Bill Butler.jpg

Sobriquet: Bill

Appearance: A tall man of light build, Bill doesn't stand out unless he wants to. When seeking to avoid notice, through a combination of body-language, select clothing and stealth, Bill can veritably vanish into a crowd and that was before he was Embraced. When looking for a good time Bill slicks back his hair, buts on the best duds he can find and goes out on the town to kick-up his heels.

Behavior: In public, Bill is quiet and reserved. He is constantly aware of his environment and prefers to listen and watch rather then speak or act. When celebrating some success or other, Bill almost becomes manic in his excess enthusiasm for whatever amusement is at hand and seeks to involve all pack members in the celebratory rites. Privately, he tries to single out other Cainites for one-on-one conversation. When with other Sabbat he is friendly and sympathetic, he is also always looking for opportunities to corrupt both new and old friends.

History: The most experienced member of the pack. Bill Butler was born just a couple years after the United States of America entered World War II. A New Yorker, born and raised, he grew up in Hell's Kitchen in midtown Manhattan. In those days, Hell's Kitchen was true to its name, subject to overcrowding, poor living conditions, endemic crime and constant gang violence. It was the perfect place for Bill to grow up. Bill's father was a longshoreman who made a better than average income, but was rarely home, while his mother was a traditional Irish woman, fond of drinking and taking out her anger on her youngest son.

To escape a his mother, Bill hit the streets young and ran with nearly every gang in the neighborhood at one time or another. In 1959, he was running with a gang called the Vampires who were embroiled in blood-feud with another gang called the Norsemen, Bill and his best friend at the time, a young Puerto Rican named Salvador Agron were sent in advance to scout the park where the rumble had been arranged, but Butler and Agron mistook a couple of loud-mouth teens for Norsemen and stabbed them both to death.

Both Agron and Butler were caught, but as Butler was a white-kid, the cops covered up his involvement and let the Spic take the fall for both murders. It said the Devil protects his own, and after a stern warning from the cops, Bill was released, but after having gotten a taste for killing he knew he had to do it again. Another member of the Vampires gang was already into the dark occult and initiated Bill into Satanic rituals, animal sacrifice and blood drinking. From there it went downhill and within a couple years Bill was a hardened felon and a serial killer. Caught red-handed in the ritualized murder of a negro-woman, Bill was looking at life in prison when once again the cops cut him another deal, this time a black-boy would 'confess' to the murder and Bill would enlist in the army, overjoyed, he agreed to the deal.

After basic training, Bill was assigned to Fort Polk - Louisiana and spent his leave time in the city of Lake Charles sixty miles to the south. There he made the acquaintance a rich southern girl whose family initiated him into the tradition of hoodoo. Among the hoodoo of Lake Charles was a man named Demian King who would become a mentor to Bill, initiating him into a darker aspect of hoodoo, infernalism. Demian came from a family with a long history of infernalism and had escaped the bustle of Detroit for the southern warmth of Louisiana. Bill became Demian's truest disciple until the Gulf of Tonkin incident resulted in his transfer to Vietnam.

Bill found Saigon to his tastes and soon found new 'friends' with which to spend his free time when not in the Bush.

Bill Butler secretly served his sire as a ghoul for sixteen years before being Embraced.
